With cyber intrusions becoming more common affecting large organisations globally, the industry has been working hard to continuously ensure that our customers’ information is protected from unauthorized access. We would like to assure our customers that we are constantly improving the security of our systems.
Recently, there was news that telco customers’ data from 2014 was made available for sale. From the information gathered, it would appear that the mobile industry had a system breach in 2014. MCMC and the police are investigating this incident and the industry is providing its fullest cooperation and support to this matter.
There have also been fears that leaked data could be used for SIM cloning. We wish to reassure the public whatever information that we have come across so far in relation to the reported incident is insufficient for any parties to clone a SIM card.
We ask that our customers remain patient while MCMC and the authorities investigate this matter. On a general basis, we urge all our customers to exercise precaution when receiving information from unfamiliar sources and do be on guard against scam emails and phone calls.

Recently some syndicates overseas have been defrauding mobile phone users using "missed called" method. How it works :
- The overseas fraudster calls the victim (mobile phone user) from a Premium Rate Service number.
- Fraudster hangup immediately after 1 or 2 rings.
- Victim's phone registers a "missed call".
- Victim thinks it is a legitimate call & then makes a return call. Victim is charged for the premium IDD call.
- Fraudster earns revenue from the premium call.
Things to take note if you encounter such calls :
- Avoid calling back on an international missed call if you are not expecting such calls
- Immediately disconnect in case you call back on international premium rate number
- Do not share personal details
